A Bluethroad male (Luscinia svecica) has arrived at Leinavatn and is calling for a mate. What an impressive singer! However, after mating the Bluethroad males often turns silence.

At the 20th of May I went by snow scooter to Alvercabin at Leinavatn under perfect conditions! Many thanks to Lennarth Kvernmo and Brynjar Winje for all help and Brødrene Bakkehaug AS for borrowing us the snow scooter.

After some years of dreaming and planning I finally manage to experience the seasonal transitions from winter to summer within the arctic wilderness at Leinavatn, Northern Norway. Leinavatn is only accessible by crossing the lake Altevatn which is about 50km long, from the Norwegian side by either boat in the summer or snow mobile during winter. However, from end of May to middle of June the lake ice becomes too weak for scootering but there is still too much for boating, thus making this site inaccessible other than via helicopter. My intention is to document the seasonal changes with photo and film. To be continued …
